Abstract
Background : Determination of urinary catecholamines are considered the most clinically sensitive biochemical test for pheochromocytoma. The method most commonly used for analysis of the urine catecholamines is high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC). In this study, we evaluated new radioimmunoassay methods for the measurement of Catecholamines(epinephrine and norepinephrine)

Methods : Urine samples collected from patients on a variety of medications were grouped by SAMKWANG REFERENCE LABORATORIES.

Sample size: 80 samples (24 hours urine : 6N HC1)

Results : RIA results were significantly correlated with HPLC-results
(r = 0.90 for Norepinephrine, r=0.924 for Epinephrine)

Conclusion : The technique is easier to use, requires less equipment and is more accessible than HPLC.
